Paying For Your Membership

Annual membership runs from January through to the end of December. The club requires all members to have current BMFA insurance and CAA registration where required. Members must join BMFA directly rather than through the club. You will be able to select an affiliation to WMAC, and pay for CAA registration at the same time if required.

To join the club visit the page here. New members will meet with two committee members at one of the flying sites. For prices and how to pay, see below.

Just to note, the club is now a cashless system. Only bank card and bank transfer is accepted for payment, unfortunately that means no cheques or cash.

Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) Operator ID

You must display your operator ID on your aircraft if it weighs more than 250g (0.55lb). It must be displayed somewhere on you aircraft that is either visible or accessible without tools. This means you can hide your number inside a hatch but it must not require a tool to open the hatch.

CAA for under 18s

Upon discussing with the BMFA, under 18s must display a valid Operator ID from the CAA. However, juniors are not allowed to sign up for CAA registration in their own name as it is 18+ only. An adult, whether a flyer or not, must sign up on the junior member’s behalf. This adult must be happy to accept responsibility of the aircraft(s) flown by the junior and ensure the junior is either competent or is having tuition from someone competent. The price is still £9.00.

Alternatively, if the junior member has an adult who already has an Operator ID from the CAA, the adult may display their ID number on the junior’s aircraft for no extra fee. Again, the adult must be responsible and ensure the junior is competent or being tutored by someone competent.

We will require proof of current CAA and BMFA membership
